A release plan is a vital component of agile project management, as it focuses specifically on outlining when certain features or product increments will be developed and delivered to stakeholders or customers. The primary purpose of a release plan is to ensure that the development team has a clear roadmap for feature delivery, allowing for better communication with stakeholders about expectations and timelines.

By detailing the timeline for feature releases, the plan helps manage customer expectations regarding when they can expect particular functionalities to be available. This approach aligns with agile principles, emphasizing collaboration with stakeholders and an iterative delivery of value.

The other options touch on important aspects of project management but do not capture the primary focus of a release plan. While understanding iterations and resource management are crucial for overall project success, they do not directly pertain to the release plan's main objective of planning for feature delivery. Similarly, defining team roles and responsibilities is essential, but it addresses team organization rather than the strategic timing of releases.
